Ballpark Prints is the fulfillment of a dream, an idea, a passion, a love for baseball and Yankee Stadium. Growing up in The Bronx near Yankee Stadium and playing in the parks that surrounded it, the Stadium always cast a large shadow. It was a place where, when I wasn’t playing baseball, I would be hanging around getting players’ autographs, and getting tickets to games. Most of the players from that era would sign and many would take time and talk to you.
For a brief period from1966 through 1969 I didn’t see or listen to many baseball games, but still followed the game closely through magazines and the newspapers; even when I was in the Army stationed in Germany.
In 1973 with my interest in baseball strongly renewed because of my wife who is also a big baseball fan, we started thinking about what games we would like to see. We first decided to attend Opening Day. It was something we both wanted to do and a tradition we continue to this day. I also was aware that this would be the last home opener in the original Yankee Stadium. As the season progressed we decided to see about half-a-dozen games including the last game on September 30, 1973. But my fondest memory from that season is the Old Timers’ Day game - a game I always enjoyed – even as a child in the fifties. I convinced my father to go with us to that game and Mickey Mantle hit a home run off Whitey Ford into the lower left field seats.
On September 30th as we started out for the final game, at the last minute I decided to bring my camera. Shortly after getting the slides back that I shot that day and viewing them, I started thinking about a project along the lines of ballpark prints. My professional career was working in custom printing, graphic arts, photography, and advertising. This is an idea that I’ve been developing for a long time, and it’s finally reached the point I originally envisioned. Now the journey begins, over the coming months and year's images and galleries will be added.
So, please enjoy the images.
